How it is calculated
Currencies trade around the clock on weekdays, passing from Sydney to Tokyo, London and New York. Each centre’s session follows its own business day and daylight-saving rules, so the times shift by an hour in spring and autumn, and not always in the same week.

The clock converts each session from its own city’s time to yours, using your browser’s time zone data. Activity is highest when two sessions overlap, above all London and New York.
